A New Kind of Man

Posted on April 29, 2012 by ari

Yesterday I watched a great TED Talk from back in 2010: Tony Porter: A call to men, which I found very moving. Check it out:

At TEDWomen, Tony Porter makes a call to men everywhere: Don’t “act like a man.” Telling powerful stories from his own life, he shows how this mentality, drummed into so many men and boys, can lead men to disrespect, mistreat and abuse women and each other. His solution: Break free of the “man box.” Tony Porter is an educator and activist who is internationally recognized for his effort to end violence against women.

Also discovered and appreciated yesterday:

And if you haven’t yet seen it (and contributed, if you’re a man), take a look at Men Who Trust Women, a Tumblr where men can voice their confidence in women to make our own reproductive choices. (Because we’re not sexbots and we’re not Barbie Dolls, but, you know, humans, with brains.) Thank you to all of the men who are taking a stand against sexism – we need all the feminist allies we can get!
