Want to see a vegan cry? Here you go. This is the first time I’ve ever made a video like this. Yesterday I did something I deeply regret; this is me repenting. I’ve never been this honest and open before, about how I feel about animals, so it’s a little scary, but I think it’s something I have to do to be true to myself and my ideals.

I really value your feedback about this video. Is it too uncomfortable to watch, or too revealing? Did it speak to you? Have you had similar thoughts? Please tell me what you think by leaving a comment on this post or emailing me. Thank you so much.

Ari,
Thank you for your honest and touching story about that precious chipmunk. I think that I know about the groundhog you are speaking about as well as I believe we live pretty close to one another (speaking of which, we should do lunch sometime!).
I know your pain and experienced something similar when I was young in my pre-vegan days. We lived in Florida which has many small lizards that I used to play with. I accidentally stepped on one in our yard one day, crushing and killing him. I felt horrible about it and even had a funeral for him and a burial in our yard.
The important thing is that most of the choices you are making know don’t harm others. Try not to beat yourself up too much over it. It sounds like his death may have been quick, which may be a small consolation. You are a beautiful light in this world and you will continue to illuminate others to make more compassionate choices.
A movie you might be interested in that touches on some of the issues you mentioned about roadkill is a film called “All the Little Animals.” I’ve seen it and recommend it.

Take care of yourself and thank you for sharing this painful story.
Namaste.

Hi there… I don’t think you’re crazy at all – Just genuine in what you’re feeling. Everything is right about your emotion of compassion.
It’s tough waking up to the reality the we were (and so many continue to be) insensitive and disrespectful to others. Our culture makes it easy to simply not see or care.
Be proud and comforted that you were able to break out of the system that distorts reality and represses compassion.
I know you know this already but… Being vegan may not be easy when it comes to witnessing suffering — But it’s the right thing to do.
