Really Really Free Market this Friday

Posted on July 3, 2012 by ari

Come to our Really Really Free Market at Southside Community Center this Friday! We’re glad to be a part of the Congo Square Market again this summer and hope to see folks there. Click here for more info.

Working with Share Tompkins to help facilitate sharing and mutual aid in Tompkins County has, for me, been a natural next step in my anti-capitalist activism. Working with the Socialist Party in NYC was fun but ultimately I got frustrated by the sectarianism within socialism, and bored by the constant ineffectual wheel-spinning of electoral politics. We moved to Ithaca and I got excited about the Food Not Bombs concept, but our community already has a very strong food reclamation and distribution scene. Hosting swap meets and Really Really Free Markets felt like a good alternative – a way to directly meet people’s needs in a way that’s outside of the capitalist system, which empowers people to see the value of their own skills and resources, while fostering community interdependence and mutual aid.

Follow our Share Tompkins blog or check out our resources directory to learn more about sharing in Tompkins County and beyond. If you’re in town, I hope to see you this Friday!
